Where should a parking clock be placed?
A parking clock that cannot be read from outside the car is the same as no parking clock at all.
Placement is the part of using a parking clock that people think about least and get wrong most often. The device only works if someone standing outside the vehicle can read it without effort.
Read it from outside first
Before settling on a position, stand where an inspection would happen — in front of the car, at normal standing height — and check that the display is fully visible and legible. Do this at the angle a pedestrian actually uses, not from directly in front.
Things that spoil a good position
Most placement problems come from a short list of causes.
- Sun visors, dashcams, phone mounts or air fresheners cutting across the line of sight.
- Deep dashboards where the display sits too far back to be seen from outside.
- Steep windscreen rake causing glare or reflection across the screen.
- Tinted or heated glass sections that reduce contrast.
- Any position that blocks the driver's own view of the road — this is never an acceptable trade.
Heat and long stays
Dashboards get hot in direct sun. Keep any electronic device out of the most exposed spot where you can, and follow the manufacturer's guidance for the model you own.
Local display requirements
Some places specify where a disc must be displayed. If local rules define the position, those rules take priority over convenience. Check them before you decide on a permanent mounting spot.
